Description
The Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices (ICND) 2.2 course is a necessity for any student interested in configuring the switches and routers found in Local Area Networks (LANs) or Wide Area Networks (WANs) of a small to medium-sized enterprises. While this is often considered an entry-level course, students acquire incredibly valuable skills upon completion of the curriculum including the ability to select, connect, configure, and troubleshoot various Cisco network devices. Students easily verify their comprehension and solidify their understanding through the completion of sophisticated hands-on exercises that provide real-world applications within all modules of the course. This critical networking course provides pre-requisite knowledge and training for nearly all advanced courses across Cisco's wide range of technologies.
Objectives
Upon completion of the Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices (ICND) course, the student will be able to:
- Explain how bridging and switching operate
- Explain the purpose and operation of the Spanning-Tree Protocol
- Build a functional router configuration to support specified network operational requirements, given a network design
- Describe the features and operation of static routing
- Build a functional configuration to support specified network operational requirements, given a network design
- Use the appropriate show commands to display network operational parameters so that anomalies are detected
- Use the appropriate debug commands to monitor network operational parameters so that events and anomalies are detected
- Configure a Catalyst switch for basic operations, given a need for plug-and-play operation
- Configure and troubleshoot Virtual LANs (VLANs), given an operational access layer switch
- Configure and troubleshoot Routing Information Protocol (RIP), Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (IGRP), Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), and Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), given operational routers
- Configure IP access lists, given a functioning router
- Configure serial interfaces using PPP and High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC), given a functioning router
- Configure Frame Relay, given functioning Cisco routers
- Configure DDR between two routers with Basic Rate interface (BRI) or Primary Rate Interface (PRI), given a functioning remote access router and a physical ISDN connection

This course is a necessity for any student that desires to learn the configuration and operation of Cisco network devices, including both routers and switches.
Prerequisites
Students enrolled in this course should possess experience with networking technologies and should also be proficient with TCP/IP. Successful completion of the following course (or equivalent experience) is strongly recommended:
